Our Feeding Policy is simple.
You tell us what you would like us to feed your cats and that's what we feed them. We also feed them at the intervals you ask for. The advantages are:
1) The cats settle in better
2) They eat well
3) No upset tummy's for us to clean up
Please NOTE: In the unlikely event that a cat is NOT eating what the owner has asked us to feed them, we WILL try alternatives until we find something that they like. Please do not feed your cat prior to travelling, we will welcome them with a meal upon arrival.
We are able to cater for every feline palate, no matter how selective or particular your cat may be. We ordinarily stock Whiskas, Felix, Hilife, Kitekat and Sheba. We have a selection of fresh foods, usually cooked chicken, rabbit, coley fish, ham and turkey slices, tinned tuna and pilchards. In addition we have five top quality complete dried foods, Iams, Hills Science Diet, James Wellbeloved, Whiskas Complete and Gocat.
If your cat is on a special diet that is supplied by your Vet, it will be necessary for you to bring this in with your cat so that we can continue with his/her prescribed diet whilst he/she is with us.
In addition we welcome any treats or titbits that will encourage your cat to settle in quickly.
In general, adult cats are given two meals daily, served morning and evening. Kittens and elderly cats are fed according to their individual needs.
To safeguard the health of all our boarders we reserve the right to refuse admission to any cat showing signs of ill health.
ALL cats MUST have been immunized against Feline Enteritis and Cat Flu within the last year and the last vaccination must have been completed AT LEAST 7 days prior to boarding. Owners must produce an up-to-date inoculation certificate on arrival. All male cats over the age of seven months MUST be neutered before they are permitted to be boarded at Ferndown Cattery. Your own Vet will advise you as to the exact time as maturity varies from one cat to another.
We will be happy to administer any medication, including tablets, ointment, injections, eye drops etc. where they have been prescribed by your own Vet for your cat. Please bring written instructions along with the medication in a clearly marked container. The instructions should detail the name and dosage of the treatment, how often it should be given, what it is for, when it was last given and advise as to how you have successfully administered medication to your cat previously e.g. tablets crushed up in meat. Please note that an extra charge of 50 pence per day will be added to your account for any injections required. We carry out continuous daily monitoring of your cat's behaviour, appetite and general well being. This is recorded each day and a report of anything unusual made to the owner on collection of their cat.
FLEA TREATMENT.

ALL cats will be checked for fleas during their stay. If any live fleas are found, they will be treated with 'STRONGHOLD' or a similar product and a fee of £10.00 per cat treated will be charged. Where one cat in a family is found to have fleas, ALL CATS from that family will be treated for obvious reasons.
If no fleas are found, but there is an excessive amount of 'flea dirt' present, they will be checked again in 4-5 days time and treated as necessary. There fore, PLEASE ensure your cats have had adequate treatment before arriving at the cattery, we suggest treating at least 48 hours before hand.
Visiting of cats during their stay with us is NOT RECOMMENDED.
We find that visits from friends and neighbours can upset some cats.
However, owners may visit their own cats after the first 5 day’s of boarding where the cats are boarding for an extended period due to building work etc.
